Risden Wood F C History
Risden Wood Football Club started their journey in 1982 under the guise of Golden Swift, Runners up in both the league (Div 6) and the divisional cup followed. Promotion was again achieved the following season this time finishing runners up in Division 5. A name change in 1985 to U G Swifts saw the division 3 title being won in 1986 another name change to United Glass saw another runner up in division 2. A name change in 1990 which cost us dear, as we were demoted to division 3, this was duly won, as was divisional cup and the league plate competition.
Division 1 was won in 92 and finally a place in the premier division. Premier division cup was won in both 93 - 94 and the league cup was also won in 94, the competitions first winners.
The one and only premier division title was won in 95, another change of name followed: Reynard Athletic finished runners up in the premier division and our newly formed reserve side won division 6 in 1996.
In 97 the reserves won Division 4, and the first team again finished runners up in the premier division.
A barren spell followed with only success a division 2 cup win for the reserves in 98.
We became Risden Wood in 2000 and finished runners up in the premier division in 02. 02- 03 saw the emergence of the A team and in their first season of mens football winning division 4 at a canter played 20 won 20 and they were also runners up in the division 4 cup. Penalty kicks denied the first team the league cup in 03 and they were also runners up in the premier cup.
In 2003/04 was the year that nearly was needing 2 points from the final two games to win the title they only managed one draw and finished runners up, some silver wear was won beating Marquis 1 0 in the premier division cup.
The reserves won the division cup and finished runners up in the first division and like the first team suffered from last day defeat. The A team finished runners up in both the 2nd division and the division 2 cup as well as reaching the semi final of the league cup.
2004/05 saw the first team runners up in the first Risden Wood open championship they then won the first ever Arthur Diamond Memorial trophy defeating rivals Maypole Athletic 4-2.
04/05 was a mixed bag for Risden with the emergence of Risden Wood Blues the only silver wear brought home was from the Reserves who won division 1 they also finished runners up in division 1 cup.
Risden Wood also became the first to enter the F A Sunday Cup but fell at the first hurdle.
05/06 Risden Wood Reserves were runners up in division 1, Risden Wood A became Unique and Risden Wood took on another A team, this team were runners up in the division 3 cup.
06/07 Risden Wood Reserves changed their name to F C R to play in the premier league and the A team became the Reserves.And the Blues became the "A" team.
07/08 The blues were replaced by Risdenwood under 17.They became our "A"team, They did well for their first year in adult football,
Runners up in Div 3.
Reserves - 4th in Div 1.
1st team - 5th Premier League.
Risdenwood reserves beat Unique 3-1 in the memorial 5 a-side tournament (Plate final), goals from Nathan Blake, Martyn Henry and Joseph Farrington.
